Adult Treatment
Adult orthodontic treatment is becoming more and more popular. A primary concern with respect to adult therapy is whether or not the tissues can withstand orthodontic treatment. In general, if a patient has normal gum, bone, and tooth health, and there is a lack of periodontal disease, adults can be treated quite satisfactorily.Orthodontic care for adults is often more time consuming since these patients are not growing and the modification of growth to orthodontic treatment is not possible. Since adult patients are not growing it is oftentimes necessary to consider a facial surgical correction in combination with orthodontics. These corrections can involve the upper and lower jaw as well as the lip and nose. Surgical orthodontic corrections require an interdisciplinary approach to the problem, but usually gain beautiful results.
The bottom line, however, is the health of the patient. As stated, if patients have healthy gums, teeth and bone, treatment can be very satisfying to the patient and the orthodontist.
Treatment modalities for adults can include sequential aligner therapy known as Invisalign. We, however, prefer to use braces or a combination of braces and Invisalign. We have stainless steel metal braces, clear orthodontic braces, and gold braces, which are all available to our adult patients.
